UK Sausage Week is back with a banger for 2025!

UK Sausage Week, the premier initiative celebrating a British meal-time staple, will run through the last week of October.

The week-long activity, running from Monday 27th October – Sunday 2nd November, will see Britain’s butchers’ shops, supermarkets, caterers and manufacturers highlight the fantastic range of sausages available.

As part of the celebrations, Britain’s biggest national sausage competition was held in August to determine which sausage will be crowned UK Supreme Sausage Champion, selected from winners in ten categories, with meat product manufacturers, retailers, foodservice from across the UK entering their bangers for judging.

Kicking off the week is a sell-out awards luncheon and ceremony on Monday 27th October, when members of the UK meat industry will make their way to Butchers’ Hall in London to find out the winners of each category and the overall champion.

Based in Smithfield, Butchers’ Hall is home to one of the city’s oldest Livery companies – the Worshipful Company of Butchers – and is surrounded by monuments of London’s historic meat trade. In short, it is the perfect venue for a sizzling celebration!

From the Cumberland to the chipolata, a variety of specialist sausages have been recognised across the awards categories, which include:

The awards presentations culminate in the crowing of a new UK Supreme Sausage Champion, awarded to a product deemed by an industry judging panel to be of ‘exceptional quality’.

Retailers to back week-long promotion

UK Sausage Week offers retailers across the UK the chance to spotlight their sausages, and in previous years has seen a fantastic range of initiatives launched as a result – from limited-edition products to sausage-eating contests and customer competitions.

In 2024, the Sleaford Sausage Shop created a Lincolnshire Foot Long sausage, while Scotland-based We Hae Meat celebrated by giving away five special boxes full of its sausage products. Nigel Alderson, who runs Alderson’s Butchers in Darlington, spent the week handing out more than 100 free sausage sandwiches to local businesses, with recipients including charities, funeral homes, hospitals and care homes.

Previous years have seen winners appear on ITV’s This Morning, The Chris Evans Breakfast Show and national and local radio stations.
