It has been announced that there will be a four-day weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Here’s what employers need to know.

• The late May Bank Holiday, which would have fallen on Monday 30 May 2022, will be moved to Thursday 2 June 2022
• there will be an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June 2022.

Employers need to plan ahead and consider what this means for holiday entitlement. This may impact an employer’s operations (although businesses do not have to close if they choose not to) and employees time off. There are no automatic rights to Bank Holidays off, so we must look to the contract of employment to establish entitlement.
