British Butchers Survey is back for 2025!

In 2021 National Craft Butchers launched the British Butchers Survey, the first ever industry survey for the UK’s independent Butchers. It was sent out to independent butchers throughout the UK receiving responses from England, Wales, and Scotland, providing such valuable insights we repeated it in 2023.

The survey provides an invaluable snapshot of the challenges facing craft butchers and of the positives they bring their industry and communities. This gives the industry a perfect opportunity to remind the public that customers who care about where their meat comes from and how it is produced should be regularly visiting their local craft butcher.

Now back in 2025 we’re asking all butchers to support their industry and have your say!!

At a time when costs are challenging, having a clear picture of our industry is more important than ever. We want to know whether the customer changes you’ve seen in the previous years have continued, how the recent price increases have affected your business, and what you think the industry needs going forward!

The survey covers areas such as apprentices, margins, and provides a valuable profile of the ‘average’ butcher in the UK, it takes less than 10 minutes to complete and this year we continue being able to track the changes to our industry comparing key results to our 2021 & 2023 statistics.

NCB President David Gigli urged butchers to take the few minutes needed to complete this survey ‘it is more important than ever that butchers make themselves heard so please do take the few minutes to have your say.’

The British Butchers Survey launches on Monday 24th March 2025 on the NCB website and social media and is open to all butchers in the UK throughout March and April.

NCB plans to reveal the key results at their members event Craft Butcher Live on Monday 30th June
