There was a warm welcome across the industry for the positive cross-party support expressed during the parliamentary debate on Thursday 8th May, which highlighted the vital role small abattoirs play in the UK’s food and farming landscape. It was encouraging to hear recognition from all nations and political parties of the sector’s contribution to economic growth, rural employment, the marketing of native breeds, and the promotion of high animal welfare standards. The continued commitment from Government to work closely with industry is a vital step toward securing targeted, long-term support for small abattoirs.
