On Friday 30th September 2022 the Bank of England is withdrawing the legal tender of the £20 and £50 paper notes. From 1st October, on the polymer £20 and £50 notes will have legal tender status. These will feature JMW Turner on £20 and Alan Turing on £50 notes.
After Friday 30th September you will not longer be able to take the paper notes in your shop or use them to pay businesses. You will be able to deposit these notes at the bank or post office.
You should tell your staff not to take the old paper £20 and £50 notes after Friday 30th September. If they do, then these notes should be put in a separate place in the till so that other customers are not given these notes in their change. These old notes, should be deposited straight away.
