Celebrate National Butchers’ Week 2026 and Back Your Local Butcher
National Craft Butchers is calling on meat lovers across the UK to get behind National Butchers’ Week, running from 2nd to 8th March 2026. The week highlights the skill, care and community role of independent butchers, and encourages people to visit their local butcher, learn about great meat and enjoy real quality on the plate.
National Butchers’ Week brings butchers together to show what makes their craft special. From expert knowledge on cuts and cooking to first-hand advice on provenance and sustainability, butchers offer something supermarkets can’t match. It’s also a chance for butchers to host events, share stories and show customers what they’re passionate about.
Richard Douglas, President of National Craft Butchers, said:
“National Butchers Week is a celebration of a profession built on years of training, dedication and real craft. Independent butchers bring precision, pride and close attention to detail to every cut, starting with outstanding produce and ending with amazing food, clear provenance and fantastic personal service. This week is about shining a light on that skill and encouraging everyone to step into their local butcher’s shop and experience the difference for themselves.”
National Craft Butchers is championing the week as a way to promote the industry, raise public awareness and build community connections. Last year many independent butchers featured in national and local media, talking about quality meat, sustainable supply chains and how they support their local communities.
The public is encouraged to support their local butcher during the week by:
- popping into their nearest butcher’s shop
- asking for tips on cuts, cooking and recipes
- joining in online with #NationalButchersWeek to share experiences
Independent butchers play a vital role in local food economies. They bring expertise, traceability and quality to customers and help keep traditional skills alive.
